Agency History

The Hess Agency has been serving the insurance needs of our friends, neighbors and local businesses since 1932. Central Pennsylvania knew our founder, Robert O. Hess, as a respected minister, storekeeper, tax preparer, notary and business leader. Robert and his father, Harry, served on the boards of several local mutual insurance companies, helping local farmers obtain and understand their insurance coverage.

Robert contracted with Old Guard Mutual Fire and Storm Insurance Company to sell its policies to local farmers, businesses and families. From that first policy in the 1930's we've grown to over 19,000 policies in force today. Robert's vision and values live on in our agency under the leadership of his grandson, Steve Faus.

In 1999 we outgrew our offices in Mastersonville, PA and moved into a beautifully renovated 150 year old barn at 2990 Mount Joy Road. Rough hewn beams support modern techology just as inherited values sustain our stability and growth. We are proud of our heritage and our home and we invite you to stop by for a visit.
